Preston North End FC are based in the town of Preston, Lancashire.  They currently play in the second level of English football, the EFL Championship.  Preston were originally formed as a cricket club in 1875 and were based at Deepdale.  In 1878 the club took up football in the cricket off-season over winter.  They decided to focus on football rather than cricket in 1880, and the football club was founded.  Preston continue to play their home games at Deepdale which is football’s oldest ground in terms of successive use each season.

PNE was one of the founder members of the Football League in 1888.  They won the very first League Championship that season, and also went on to win the very first FA Cup in the same year.  They went through the entire FA Cup competition not conceding a goal.  As such, they were the very first team to win the Double.  They went the whole season unbeaten and were known as ‘The Invincibles’.   Preston went on to win the league the following season too.

Preston North End are owned by Trevor Hemmings after nearly going out of business on two separate occasions.  They are now an established team in the EFL Championship and more financially secure.
