Rivaldo is regarded as one of the best footballers of all time. An extremely creative player, he played with typical Brazilian flair. His main position was an attacking midfielder but he could also play as a striker, or second striker. He was naturally left-footed but was capable of playing on both wings. As a result he would sometimes play as a winger or wide midfielder. He was extremely creative possessing amazing skills and had the ability to create and score goals. The Brazilian would score spectacular goals with swerving free kicks and with shots from long range. Rivaldo won the Ballon d’Or in 1999 and was named FIFA World Player of the Year.

He started his career at Santa Cruz and played for a number of Brazilian teams. Rivaldo would eventually move from Palmeiras to Deportivo La Coruna in Spain in 1996. Soon after, Rivaldo signed for Barcelona in 1997 for $26 million. He had a hugely successful season becoming the top goalscorer with 19 goals from 34 games. Barcelona won the double that year, winning La Liga and Copa del Rey. They went on to win La Liga in 1999 with Rivaldo scoring 24 goals. That helped him towards winning the Ballon d’Or. He fell out with manager Van Gal for playing him out of position. Rivaldo joined Milan in 2002 winning the UEFA Champions League, Coppa Italia and the UEFA Super Cup.

Rivaldo played for a number of other clubs before retiring in 2014. He was a regular starter for the Brazilian national team. The Brazilian legend scored 35 goals from 74 appearances for his national team.
