Karim Benzema plays as a striker for Real Madrid and the French national football team. The French superstar is one of the best strikers in world football. He is renowned for his ability to score, his high-intensity work rate and ability in the air to score headers. Benzema is a typical No9 and often plays as a centre-forward. He is however extremely versatile and has the ability to play across the front line in multiple positions. He can play on the wing, in support to the main striker or a number 10 role. Benzema was born in Lyon and began his senior career at Lyon in 2005. He played for Lyon B before being promoted to the first-team squad. He won a number of Ligue 1 titles with Lyon. In 2009 he won his 4th league title with Lyon and was the league’s top scorer. This helped him win the Player of the Year award that year. His performances for Lyon sparked interest across Europe. Real Madrid eventually came in to buy Benzema in 2009 for a transfer fee of 35 million Euros.

After a slow start to his Madrid career, he has gone on to win 13 trophies to date. These include four UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, amongst others. He is now the club’s 5th record goalscorer. His club performances ensure he is a regular in the France national team. Benzema has 90 international caps, scoring 31 goals in the process.
