Blackpool Football Club plays in the second tier of English football. They won a promotion to the EFL Championship in 2021 after a period in League One. The club was formed in 1887 and have played in a number of stadiums since their formation. They now play at Bloomfield Road, having played previously at Raikes Hall and the Athletics Grounds.

Blackpool were founder members of the Lancashire League all the way back in 1889. They went on to play in the Football 2nd Division in 1896 and won the title in season 1929-30. Blackpool entered a strong period under manager Joe Smith. They won the FA Cup in 1953 which was renowned for being the Stanley Final. They beat Bolton Wanderers 4-3, despite being 3-1 down towards the end of the game. Blackpool came 2nd to season 1955-56 finishing runners-up to Manchester United. They finished in the top 6 four times during the 1950s.

The club was owned by the Oyston family between 1987 and 2019. The ownership was troubled in lots of ways with owners being jailed and eventually found to have stripped assets out of the company by the High Court. Simon Sadler took over the company in 2019 ousting the Oyston family.
