Alessandro Del Piero is a retired Italian footballer who played in a number of positions. His versatility allowed him to play a number of positions along the front line and in midfield. Del Piero is acknowledged as one of the greatest players to have played the game. He was a prolific scorer, scoring 346 goals, making him one of the all-time top goalscorers in Italian history. Del Piero is second behind Silvio Piola who scored 390 goals in all competitions. He was known as ‘fantasista’ in Italy due to his flair, style of play and ability to create and score goals.
Del Piero started out at Padova in Serie B, he soon earned a move to Italian giants Juventus in 1993. He remained loyal to Juve, playing 19 seasons for the club. Of those 19 seasons, the football legend played 11 as captain for the club. Del Piero was a firm fan’s favourite and holds the record for most goals and appearances for the club. In 705 games he scored 209 goals winning countless trophies and personal awards along the way. He won six Serie A titles, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Coppa Italia amongst others. He has the accolade of scoring a goal in every competition he has played in.
Alessandro also has a FIFA World Cup winner’s medal after winning the World Cup in 2006. He scored 27 goals in 91 appearances for the Italian national team making him the 4th highest goal scorer.
