Henrik Stenson is a Swedish professional golfer who was born in Gothenburg.  He became European Golfer of the Year in 2013 and 2016 and has spent over 300 weeks in the the World Top 10 rankings.  His career high is being ranked second in the world.

He is natural left-hander, however he actually to play golf right-handed.  The golfer was 12 when he played his first round of golf at his local club, the the Gullbringa Golf & Country Club.  A natural golfer, he played with a 5 handicap at the age of 15 and played in a number of amateur and junior tournament during his teen years.

Stenson turned pro in 1998 and played in the Challenge Tour, the second tier professional golf tour in Europe.  He topped the money rankings on this tour in 1999.  He joined the main European Tour in 2001 and won his first European Tour tournament that year.  He won the Bensons & Hedges International Open which took him top of the European Order of Merit, and also to 5th in the World Gold rankings.  This was the highest ever ranking for a Swedish Golfer.  This beat Jesper Parnevik’s ranking of 7th in 2000.  Stenson spent an impressive 100 weeks in the rankings top 10 between 2007 and 2010.

He became the first Swedish golfer and the first male Nordic major champion when he won the 2016 Open Championship.  He achieved a major championship record score of 264 at Royal Troon.  He has also won a number of the most prestigious golf tournaments across the world.  These include The Player’s Championship, the World Cup, The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, the Tour Championship, the DP Tour Championship, South African Open and the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
