Daniel Willett was born in Sheffield and is one of four brothers.  He is a professional golfer who currently plays on the European Tour.  He has won one major championship having won the Master’s Tournament in 2016 at Augusta.  He was the first European to win the championship in 17 years and only the second Englishman to win it.  Nick Faldo was the only other Englishman to win it in 1996.

During the 2016 Masters, defending champion Jordan Spieth led by 5 shots at the 10th hole of the final round.  Spieth collapsed on the 12th hole.  He had a quadruple bogey 7 on a par-3.  Willett finished strongly by scoring a bogey-free final round of 67.  He accepted membership on the PGA Tour shortly after his win.  Consequently he increased his Official World Golf Ranking to 9th place.  He has since achieved seven European Tour wins including the 2019 BMW PGA Championship.  This follows the DP World Tour Championship win in Dubai in 2018.

In his early career, he undertook a golf scholarship at Jacksonville State University in Alabama.  He was Freshman of the Year in 2006 and won the Ohio Valley Conference in 2007.  Willett then went on to win the English Amateur Championship in 2007.  He turned professional in 2008 and played on the European Tour in 2009.

From a personal perspective, Willett supports English Premier League club Liverpool.  He is a member of Lindrick Golf Club and lives in Rotherham, in Yorkshire.  He is married to Nicole Harris, who he married in 2013.  His first child was born days before his Master’s victory in 2016.
