St Mirren FC are a professional football club based in Paisley, Scotland.  They are one of the oldest clubs in the world having been formed in 1877.  They play in black and white stripes and have two nicknames, the ‘Saints’ and the ‘Buddies’.  They were promoted into the Scottish Premiership in 2018 having won the Scottish Championship the previous season.  They play their homes games at St Mirren Park on Greenhill Road, having moved there in 2009.  They had previously been at another ground also called St Mirren Park, since 1894.  The new ground holds almost 8,000 people at capacity.

St Mirren have never won the Scottish Premiership.  They have won the Scottish Cup on three occasions, the last time being in 1987.  Their most recent trophy triumph was 2013, when they won the Scottish League Cup.  They have qualified for European competition on four occasions.  The UEFA Cup Winners Cup once, after winning the Scottish Cup in 1987, and the UEFA Cup three times in the 1980s.

The club were originally formed as a men’s club which included a number of male sports.  These included cricket, rugby and of course football.  Such was the popularity of football in the 19th century, they opted to focus on association football.  Their name dervies from Saint Mirin, the founder of a nearby church.
