Livingston FC are based in West Lothian, Scotland.  They were originally a works team called Ferranti Thistle and were established in 1943.  They entered the Scottish Football League in 1974 and their name was changed to Meadowbank Thistle.  They played their matches in Edinburgh at the Meadowbank Stadium.  The club was relocated in 1995 to Livingston and were renamed after their new town.

The club achieved relative success gaining promotion to the top tier of Scottish Football in 2001.  They had a solid year in the first team in the top flight, qualifying for the UEFA Cup.  They finished 3rd in the league behind the two top teams – Rangers and Celtic.  Livingston won the Scottish League Cup in 2004 beating Hibernian 209 in the final at Hampden Park.  This was the club’s first major trophy.

Following their notable cup win, Livingston experienced financial problems and were relegated to the Scottish First Division in 2006.  They almost went out of business in 2009 before a last-minute deal with made to save the club.  The club was demoted as a consequence but achieved successive promotions and made it back to the Scottish Premier League in 2018
