Hibernian FC are from the Leigh area of the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.  Hibernian are also known as Hibs for short.  Hibs play in the top tier of Scottish Football, the Scottish Premier League (SPL).  Hibernian were founded in 1875 by Edinburgh’s Irish community.  The name Hibernian originates from the Roman word for Ireland.  The Irish heritage is very evident in the teams green and white team colours and their club badge.  It is claimed the team’s support is now based more on geography, than ethnicity or religion.  Supporters are referred to as Hibbies.

Hib’s main rivals are Heart of Midlothian, also known as Hearts.  Heart’s are also from Edinburgh, so their matches are referred to as the Edinburgh derbies.  Hibernian play their home games at Easter Road.  They have been playing there since 1893 when they joined the Scottish Premier League.

Hibs have won the Scottish League title on four occasions.  Their most recent triumph was 1952.  Three of those titles were achieved between 1948 and 1952.  They have won the Scottish Cup three times, the most recent in 2016.  Hibs have also won the Scottish League Cup three times too.  They were the first British side to compete in a European competition.  Hibs reached the semi-final of the very first European Cup in 1955-1956 season.
