    Cadel Evans was a professional cyclist who raced in a number of disciplines. He raced in road bike racing and mountain biking. He was a champion in both disciplines. The Australian legend won the Tour de France in 2011, becoming one of very few cyclists outside of Europe to win the race. Prior to his victory in 2011, he was runner-up on two occasions. He came so close in both 2007 and 2008. Many people thought an eventual win was inevitable, due to his competitiveness and strong will to win.     He was hugely successful as a mountain biker. Evans won the Mountain Bike World Cup in consecutive years between 1998 and 1999. He soon switched to road cycling after his second victory in 1999. The cycling legend won an Australian award for Sports Performer of the Year in 2007. He donated his $50,000 winnings to charity.
