Motherwell FC originates from North Lanarkshire in Scotland.  They have been an ever-present in the Scottish Premier League since 1985.  Motherwell plays in claret and amber, playing their home games at Fir Park Stadium.  Their home ground has a capacity of 13,677.  Motherwell’s main rivals are Hamilton Academical and Airdrieonians who are located close to them.  The matches against these two clubs are known as the Lanarkshire derbies.

The club were formed in 1886 when two local clubs were merged.  Glencairn FC and Alpha FC met in the local pub and decided to join forces, to represent the town as a whole.  The club turned professional in 1893 and was elected to the Scottish league.

Motherwell has won four major honours.  They won the First Division Championship in 1932, the Scottish Cup twice (most recently in 1991), and the Scottish League Cup once.  They have also won minor trophies, including the Milk Cup and the Scottish Summer Cup.  Their record victory is a thumping win against Dundee United in 1954 when they won 12-1.  Their highest loss was an 8-0 defeat to Aberdeen in 1979.  They took part in a thrilling 6-6 draw with Hibernian.  This remains the single match with the most goals scored in the Scottish Premier League.
