Cardiff City are a Welsh football club who ply their trade in the English Championship. They remain the only club outside of England to have won the FA Cup, which they did in 1927. They were founded in 1899 under the name Riverside AFC. They changed their name to Cardiff City in 1908 and joined the English Football League in 1920.
In addition to winning the FA Cup, they have also got to 3 other cup finals. They were beaten by Sheffield United in the 1925 FA Cup Final, by Portsmouth in the 2008 FA Cup Final and defeated by Liverpool in the 2012 League Cup Final. They are the second most successful team in the Welsh Cup competition, having won it 22 times, only bettered by Wrexham.
They are nicknamed the Bluebirds because of the blue and white colours they play in. There was a short period of time they controversially changed their colours to red under the control of Vincent Tan. This lasted for 3 seasons during which time the fans organised protest marches and demonstrations to express their disapproval. Tan backed down and re-introduced the home blue kit. He did however make the away kit red!
