QPR is short for Queens Park Rangers Football Club. The club play in the English Football League Championship. This is one league underneath the English Premier League. They play all their home games at a fairly tight ground called Loftus Road which holds around 18,000 people. This is one of over 20 different grounds they have played their home games, which is a record. QPR plays in blue and white. Their home shirt is blue and white stripes or hoops. QPR were formed in 1886 following a merger between St Judes and Christchurch Rangers, who were formed in 1882. The official formation of Queen Parks Rangers dates back to 1882 because of this. The club became professional in 1889 following election into the Southern League. QPR joined the Football League 31 years later in 1920. The biggest achievement in the club’s history was in 1967 when they won the League Cup. They have also reached the FA Cup Final once in 1982 which they lost to Tottenham Hotspur. They took Spurs to a replay where they lost 1-0. QPR’s highest position in the top flight was 2nd in 1977. Finishing as runners-up earnt their entry into the following season’s UEFA Cup. They reached the quarter-finals in the 1976-1977 European campaign.
